FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH IN
WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS BY PROF. WILLIE W. LU
1: LU'S LAW - 1
No single Radio Transmission Technology (RTT) can
provide
both Broadband High-speed Transmission and Seamless Mobility in a
commercial environment (with required wireless and
mobile Network Capacity). -
Principal of Lu's Law.
2:
LU'S LAW - 2
When wireless data rate increases, the radio
transmission range will decrease, and the mobility will
degrade tremendously. Such problem is hard to be solved
by signal processing technique alone in a commercial
environment.
3:
LU'S LAW - 3
Each wireless Radio Transmission Technology (RTT) has a
theoretical limitation on data rate in commercial
environment.
4:
LU'S LAW - 4
The mobile handset device is evolving from a traditional
transmission-specific radio system to the future
interface-based system. This future mobile phone will be
relying on Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) platform for
complete openness and simplicity.
5:
LU'S LAW - 5
Transmitting very high data rates over a fast-fading
mobile wireless link in a commercial environment does
not work because it requires very high S/N by the
increased receiver bandwidth and much more spectrum with
very low BER which is really hard to implement.
6:
LU'S LAW - 6
The future mobile device will have much simple system
and more transmission bandwidth with open wireless
architecture (OWA). Most of signal processing and application
processing will be done in the shared Mobile Cloud by
Virtual Mobile Server, powered by the OWA wireless
transmission convergence.
7 :
LU'S LAW - 7
Scaling in wireless communications is in number of connected devices or systems, no longer in number of transistors or chips. Trillions of radios will bring virtualization to a new level of open wireless architecture (OWA).
8 :
LU'S LAW - 8
The future mobile networks will evolve to an User-centric Mobile Cloud infrastructure based on Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) rather than the traditional Carrier-centric mobile cellular infrastructure based on specific radio transmission technology.
9:
LU'S LAW - 9
Future Radio Transmission Technology (RTT) will be operated by
Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) discovering, ruling and scheduling different air interfaces for billions of cyber physical system (CPS) devices and mobile devices connecting to the
Mobile Cloud wirelessly.
10:
LU'S LAW - 10
Future Mobile Device will be definitely User-centric
(person) instead of Technology-centric because mobile
device will be much simple, low power consumption and
high performance based on Open Wireless Architecture (OWA)
Mobile Cloud platform. It will be very stupid to focus
too much on pursuing and competing many cores'
processors in handheld mobile device.

CONCLUSION AND LU'S MODEL IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS
1:
Cellular mobile RTT (such as CDMA, etc)
With high-speed
mobility, but only several Mb/s max of data rates.
2 :
High data rate RTT (such as OFDM, etc)
With high data rates
of tens of Mb/s or higher, but without seamless mobility.
3 :
Converged mobile Cellular and High data rate solutions
Multiple RTTs solution on Open Wireless Architecture (OWA)
platform.
4:
Mobile Cloud Infrastructure based on OWA platform
Mobile Device becomes the terminal Gateway to the Mobile Cloud by Open Wireless Architecture (OWA).
5:
Summary of Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) platform
Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) converges WLAN, WPAN,
BWA and Cellular wireless into one open platform to optimize the
wireless transmission and wireless access for the future
User-Centric Mobile Device and to balance effectively the overall
performance among
wireless Broadband High-speed Transmission, Seamless Mobility
and
Network Capacity.
